استنفرت السلطات الموريتانية جهودها من أجل التصدي لأخطر تسرب بالمياه الإقليمية ، وذلك بعد ظهور بقع زيتية على شواطئ البلاد، خصوصا شواطئ العاصمة نواكشوط، فيما لم تتمكن السلطات بعد من تحديد مصدر التسرب.
