من المقرر أن يسافر الرئيس محمد ولد عبد العزيز إلى الرياض عاصمة المملكة العربية السعودية للمشاركة في ختام المناورات العسكرية "رعد الشمال" التي تشارك فيها وحدة من الجيش الموريتاني على الحدود السعودية العراقية يوم الأربعاء 9 مارس 2016.
وتعتبر هذه أول مرة تشارك فيها قوة موريتانية فى تمرين عسكرى بهذا الحجم، كما أنها أول مرة تتجه فيها قوات موريتانية إلى الجزيرة العربية.
وكان قائد الجيوش العامة اللواء الركن محمد ولد الغزوانى قد توجه إلى السعودية من أجل زيارة القوة والتحضير لزيارة الرئيس.
